WaterWipes: Moms Choice in Baby Care as World’s Puriest & Only Chemical-Free Wipe

WaterWipes is Moms Choice in Baby Care as the World's Puriest and Only Chemical Free WipeCare for your baby’s sensitive bottom with WaterWipes; the 2-ingredient baby wipe specifically designed for baby’s skin!

Disclaimer:  I received this a sample of this product for free in exchange for my honest opinion.  All opinions are my own.  Please visit our disclosure page for more information.

Newborn babies have very sensitive skin and with their immune system still developing, it’s important to use gentle products to clean the skin.  Topical cleansing product ingredients can easily be absorbed into a baby’s skin so it’s important to know what’s in the products we use.

I was so excited to get my WaterWipes Influenster Voxbox and I couldn’t wait to try it out.  I was definitely curious to see how effective it would be in cleaning my baby’s cute butt knowing that it only had 2 ingredients.  I admit I was a bit skeptical.

WaterWipes is Moms Choice in Baby Care as the World’s Puriest and Only Chemical Free Wipe

About WaterWipes:

  • World’s Only Chemical-Free Wipe – Contains only 2 ingredients: 99.9% water and 0.1% Grapefruit Seed Extract (GSE)
  • Hypoallergenic
  • May help to prevent diaper rash

Honorable Mentions: [source]

  • 97% of Healthcare Professionals believe WaterWipes is suitable for use on newborn baby’s skin
  • Awarded the Seal of Acceptance from National Ezcema Association

There’s not much else to say about the water ingredient in this product besides that it’s quite an amazing compound but I didn’t know much about Grapefruit Seed Extract (GSE) until I received this voxbox and started researching it.  There is a lot of research on the benefits of GSE and I was surprised to find its’ multi-use properties!

Research states that GSE has the following beneficial properties: [source]
  • Antifungal and antimicrobial properties for fighting infections
  • Can be used as a purifier, antiseptic, and preservative
  • Can be used for treatment in the following cases:  Acne, Athlete’s Foot, Gingivitis, Diarrhea, food poisoning and more
  •  Other uses include: water purification, cleansing produce, disinfectant sterilizer, pet care, laundry use, in nebulizers and humidifiers, and in hot tubs and swimming pools
Important things to consider about GSE: [source]
  1. There IS a difference between grapefruit juice and grapefruit seed extract because there is research that show some indication of harmful effects of large dosage of grapefruit juice for an extended period of time.
  2. GSE comes from the seed, white membrane, and pulp of a grapefruit but It’s important to note that not all GSE are created equal.  A recent research shows that 5 out of the 6 tested GSE products, there were additives like benzethonium chloride, triclosan, and methylparaben.  Although these are relatively harmless when used topically, it shouldn’t be used internally.  In products used so closely to orafices of the body, large amounts of GSE could be harmful in these cases.
Things to consider when using WaterWipes: [source]
  • There is a healthy balanced ratio of 1000:1 parts water and GSE making this safe to use on your baby.
  • Although GSE can be used as a type of preservative, the amount found in these wipes won’t protect the integrity of these wipes if overly warmed inside a wipes warmer.  WaterWipes should be stored in a dry, cool area.
  • WaterWipes DO expire and should be opened within 15 months of production date and used within 4 weeks from opening package.
  • WaterWipes is not biodegradable because it is made of 80% polyester (not biodegradable) and 20% Viscose (biodegradable semi-synthetic substance).  Therefore these wipes are not flushable.
  • You can use WaterWipes on your baby’s face or when your baby has a diaper rash because there are no harmful chemicals that could irritate the baby’s skin more.  Always allow WaterWipes to dry completely before placing another diaper on to prevent moisture being locked inside and causing more irritation to your baby’s skin.

Something I thought was weird is that this product does not talk about the fibers used in creating these wipes.  It does state that it is a blend of viscose and polyester but after doing some research of viscose I was concerned with the process that makes viscose fibers.  There are several different kinds of viscose fibers but from what I’ve read, viscose is a semi-synthetic fiber that comes from trees.  The process in which these fibers are made is rigorous and does have chemical assistance.  Though it’s unclear what fibers WaterWipes uses, I can only imagine if the process needed to create such fibers needed chemicals to break it down, those chemicals may still be residing in the final product.  Definitely something to look into. How WaterWipes Works On My Family

I admit I wasn’t sure how effective this product would be in cleaning my babies.  With my current brand of baby wipes, I would have to use several sheets of wipes to get the dirty job done (as in my baby doesn’t still smell like pee, etc).  I was pleasantly surprised when I was able to use WaterWipes to gently cleanse my baby’s bottom with just a single wipe (2 for spectacular diaper disasters).  My current wipes were just not moist enough to get the job done with one wipe.  I also like the fact I could use this on my baby’s entire body including his face.  This makes this product:

  1. More cost effective because I didn’t have to use different types of wipes
  2. A space saver because I didn’t have to carry different packages of wipes
  3. Makes traveling and clean-ups quick and easy

I love that WaterWipes uses a combination of polyester and viscose for a silk-like sheet texture for gentle cleansing of such delicate skin.  I also like that it doesn’t have a fragrance like my current wipes which I felt  was always just “covering” up the smell of a still-dirty baby bottom!

What I didn’t like about WaterWipes is that I wish it listed what the sheets are made of as an ingredient.  My feeling is that if those fibers are made through a chemical process, residue from those chemicals might still be present in the final product.  I feel that when a company advertises for purity, this should be noted.  Though it’s also important to note that GSE in WaterWipes is 0.1% so this might make it also negligible (in most scientific cases).

Overall my experience with WaterWipes was great and would still highly recommend it because it does work, it’s cost effective, a space saver, and perfect for on-the-go.

This takes me back to the days of using all the wet wipes. I am impressed that mostly it just takes the one wipe to clean up a mess unless it’s really bad. I am sure I could have used something that was that good.

    • http://www.mommyengineering.com Mommy Engineering

haha don’t we all? Who wants to go through 5-6 wipes later on giant stinky messes?! Thanks so muc hfor sharing your memory! Thanks for visiting!

So great that these are chemical-free and gentle. Many baby products, surprisingly, have irritants in them.

    • http://www.mommyengineering.com Mommy Engineering

I know, it’s a weird thought process really… they wanted to make wipes for babies but didn’t really think much about the harmful effects said wipes could have? WEIRD lol.

  • http://www.briebrieblooms.com/ Heather

I’ve seen this brand but haven’t used them yet. They seem like they would be great for our youngest daughter with sensitive skin.

  • http://artpark78.com/blog1 yonawilliams

This is my first time hearing about these wipes. One of the first things that came to my mind was what that really small percentage of grapefruit extract does for the wipes. That’s very cool that it offers so many benefits.

    • http://www.mommyengineering.com Mommy Engineering

Absolutely! I had to do that research too which is the main bulk of this post! Of course it seems large quantities of things just isn’t a good idea. I love the 1000:1 ratio 🙂 Thanks for visiting!

  • http://www.ladymarielle.com/ Marielle Altenor

I always look for products that are hypoallergenic. I sometimes sneaks my daughter’s wipes to remove my makeup lol
